Every year, the United Nations celebrates International Women’s Day on March 8. We think this is nice, but we also think women should be celebrated every single day.
Yeah, we know, duh. But did you know? Although International Women’s Day has been around since 1909, it was first created to celebrate the working woman. (For more history, see this link.) Women work. We work hard. Our work should be acknowledged, and supported.
One way we do this at Hips & Curves is to support the efforts of the women who founded Bra Recyclers and make it work. They’re an amazing not-for-profit that sends gently-used bras to women in need. Hips & Curves is a proud ambassador; be sure to read a little background on why we got involved here. And we are proud to offer a 20% discount to anyone who donates a bra for the Bra Recycling program!
When you’re properly dressed–and supported–you feel good. And when you feel good, you can do the work you love, and the work you need to do to be independent, or to feel like you are making a contribution to society and to your own well-being. In the end, that’s what being a woman who works is all about. That’s what we celebrate, not just on International Women’s Day, but every day of the year.
