Jodie was grateful for the warmth of the thick coat. It swept down to mid calf, enveloping her in its warmth. The night was crisply icy and she couldn't imagine walking the streets without it, especially tonight.
The office Christmas party was in full swing when she arrived. Light streamed out of the windows, illuminating the piles of snow in the parking lot, and music wafted out into the night. Inside, she picked a cup of wine from the tray and looked around. There were the usual jaunty paper hats, silver tinsel around people's necks, and laughter fueled by the annual holiday bonus. In one corner, the telephone sales team was playing drinking games, and the office dowager was sitting guard over the food. Jodie checked her own hat, a scarlet Santa hat trimmed in lush, white faux fur. It looked better than any tinsel.
Belting her coat more tightly around her, Jodie slipped through the crowd with one goal in mind. Max. Hunky, teasing Max; he of the chiseled cheeks and shaggy dark hair, worthy of any romance novel cover. Max, whose fingers always brushed hers for a moment too long when he handed her a report, and whose dancing eyes seemed to promise sensual pleasures galore. Max, who for all the promise in his gaze, had yet to ask her out, in spite of her less-than-subtle hints. If he didn't ask her after tonight, then the man was dead below the waist.
She drained the wine for Dutch courage, snagged another one from a table, and set off in search of her prey. It didn't take long; there he was in a corner surrounded by a bevy of women. Skinny, single, available women, whose slim figures sported the brightest colors and the latest fashions. Jodie moved over, flaunting her drop dead gorgeous curves effortlessly into the center of the group and trailing her fingers over Max's arm.
"Merry Christmas," she murmur
